CE 505 Flier

Advanced design of concrete formwork and falsework systems. Design for excavation and marine construction including temporary retaining structures and cofferdams. Aggregate production operations, including blasting, crushing, and conveying systems. Rigging system design.
Course Objectives and Expected Outcomes
The objective of the course is to expose students to the basic concepts involved in designing
construction facilities and provide students with practice in developing detailed designs for
selected facilities or portions of facilities. When the class is finished, it is expected that student
will be able to:
- Recognize the needs for construction facilities during the planning and estimating process.
- Recognize the scope of planning and design effort that will be required.
- Be able to communicate with other participants about construction facilities using appropriate
terminology.
- Independently design uncomplicated systems using appropriate design codes and resources
provided from the class.
- Design more complicated and critical systems after self-study, advice from vendors (including
product literature) and experienced engineers.
- Act as the technical point of contact for the constructor when the facility is designed by
others.
