ConE 380 XE Engineering Law





                                                                                                             

Introduction to law and judicial procedure as they relate to the practicing engineer. Contracts, professional liability, professional ethics, licensing, bidding procedures, intellectual property, products liability. Emphasis on development of critical thinking process, abstract problem analysis and evaluation. Nonmajor graduate credit.

Course Objectives:
To achieve basic understanding of legal principles involved in the construction process,including contracts, torts, agency, relationships between parties, ndemnification, liability, dispute resolution, plans & specifications as contract documents, change orders.

  About the Instructor
Kelly Strong earned his Baccalaureate degree in Civil Engineering from Iowa State University in 1980, a MBA from the University of St. Thomas in 1988, and a Ph.D. in Strategy and Organization Management from the University of Colorado in 1992. Dr. Strong is currently an Associate Professor of Civil and Construction Engineering at Iowa State University and Director for Construction Management and Technology Research at the Center for Transportation Research and Education. Before entering academia, Dr. Strong was a project manager for seven years involved with several design-build projects. Dr. Strong has sponsored research contracts through Iowa State University with the Iowa Department of Transportation, the Minnesota Department of Transportation, the Midwest Transportation Consortium, the Associated General Contractors of America, and the DataBuilder Corporation.
