History Of EDE

The College of Engineering was one of the original instructional units when Iowa State University opened. From its initial offering of two bachelors degree programs (civil and mechanical engineering), the college has expanded to 13 undergraduate curricula and confers masters and doctoral as well as bachelors degrees.

Engineering faculty, working to prepare students for their future life and career long development, have extended their teaching beyond the boundary of campus classrooms since 1913 when the college began providing continuing education programs for Iowa's engineers. Iowa engineers are still being served by courses produced by Engineering Distance Education as well as engineers from across the country and in some international locations.
