Do I have to be accepted into a graduate degree program before I take a course?

No.  Students may transfer up to nine credits of coursework into a degree program. This allows students to take courses before they enroll in a degree program so that they can see if taking courses as an off-campus student will work for them.

How do I apply to the graduate degree program?

The Graduate College website at http://www.grad-college.iastate.edu has links to the forms needed to apply to the programs

A delivery fee is the fee assessed by Engineering Distance Education to all students taking off-campus courses. Possibilities for proctors include human resources personnel, a supervisor, a librarian, minister, principal, or school superintendent. Please use the proctor identification form found at http://www.ede.iastate.edu/forms/Proctor_Form.doc to submit your proctor information before your first exam.

What does it mean to audit a course?

There are two types of audits, non-recorded audit and recorded audit. The non-recorded audit does not appear on the student’s transcript and the student is not required to complete homework assignments or exams. The recorded audit does appear on the student’s transcript as an audit and the student must work with the instructor before class begins to discuss the amount of work that needs to be done to satisfy the recorded audit requirement. Students that ask to audit a course are automatically given a non-recorded audit, unless they specify that they want a recorded audit. Students enrolled as an audit student are assessed the same fees as those students taking the course for credit. More information about auditing a course can be found at Here .

Are the graduate programs through Engineering Distance Education ABET accredited?

Technically, very few Graduate programs are ABET Accredited, because ABET accreditation can only be granted to one program (Bachelors, MS or PhD) within each institution and most institutions (like ours) accredits their BS program.  Most Engineering MS programs (including ours) rigorously enforce pre-requisite classes so that most licensing bodies will accept an MS degree from such an institution to meet the educational requirements for licensure.
